The magnificent location on the outskirts of Haringvliet has played an important role in the history of Hellevoetsluis. The town is called “Fortification City at the Haringvliet’. The Fortress, with its harbors and defenses and ancient houses are a rich treasure of history. The water and Hellevoetsluis are connected to each other. Thanks to its favorable and strategic location at the Haringvliet, Hellevoetsluis was home to the Dutch war fleet in the early 17th century.
