World Port and Home Harbour

Voorne-Putten: homeharbour to both the largest container ships and the smallest canoe. A stone’s throw from well known Rotterdam Port, you suddenly stumble on the historic marina of Hellevoetsluis, maritime home of Tromp, De Ruyter and the silver fleet by Piet Hein. Merchant ships sailed from Zwartewaal towards the oceans and the commercial port of Brielle was the battlefield of the battle between the Spaniards and the Beggars on 1 April 1572. These stories become apparent in the many museums and monuments that can be found in and around the harbours.
